Sundance Athlete to Compete in Freedom 250 Patriot Games

A National Competition celebrating the next generation of leaders, competitors, and champions will take place in Geneva, OH, August 9-11. One male and one female have been selected from each state and U.S territory, and Wyoming has chosen Sundance sophomore Luke Halverson to represent the Cowboy State.
Halverson has competed at the varsity level in Football, Wrestling, and Track among various other school activities. He’s already racked up an impressive list of accomplishments, including finishing with a 3rd place finish in the 2026 Wyoming 2A State Wrestling Tournament. Additionally, he qualified in multiple events for the Wyoming State Track and Field Championships as well as earning a letter and a starting position in football all during his freshman year.
When asked about the games, he commented, “Sports have always been a great influence in my life and have taught me about respect, hard work, and community.” He’s excited to represent Wyoming because he’s “proud to be an American where you can chase your dreams through hard work and determination.” He Said. For Halverson, the Patriot Games is an opportunity to meet new people, represent Wyoming, and challenge himself in new and unique ways.
After hearing of Luke’s selection and that he is already an accomplished wrestler, the University of Wyoming’s wrestling team decided to chip in and help sponsor Luke’s trip with some great brown and gold swag. “I can’t thank the UW wrestling team, Coach Branch, and Coach Ford enough. I’m extremely excited to sport the brown and gold, represent our state and my family while on this trip.” He said.
The Patriot Games competition will take place over a three-day format culminating with a one-hour primetime coverage by ESPN on ABC on Thursday, Aug. 13. Coverage for all competition will be streamed live via the ESPN app. Contestants are competing for a pot of $250,000 in scholarships.
