Daniel Rasmussen grew up about an hour outside of Chicago in suburban Barrington, Illinois. In high school, he was an editor of the school newspaper and a captain of the wrestling team. After high school, Rasmussen studied engineering at the University of Illinois Chicago, while also volunteering as a mentor to students at an inner-city middle school. While in college, he was also a volunteer coach for the youth and high school wrestling teams in his hometown.
In September 2024, Rasmussen came to Cody to visit a high school wrestling teammate who had become a farrier after graduating from the University of Wyoming. What was originally planned to be a weeklong visit became a permanent move after Rasmussen fell in love with Cody and accepted a job as a reporter at the Cody Enterprise. During his first year at the Enterprise, Rasmussen also worked as a finish man for a Cody farrier every Friday.
Since moving to Cody, Rasmussen has also worked remotely on projects for the tech nonprofit DeepAudit, writing code to assist in analyzing large volumes of educational materials for ideological content that undermines academic excellence and institutional neutrality.
Rasmussen started working at Big Horn Basin Media in March 2026 as the news director and morning show host on KODI. His hobbies include lifting weights, hiking, and getting beat up during Brazilian jiu-jitsu classes at Potter’s Combat Academy in Cody.
