The town of Meeteetse will mark the 250th anniversary of the United States with a lively, family-friendly community celebration featuring local traditions, live entertainment, and small-town charm on June 29th, 2026.
Residents and visitors alike are invited to gather for an evening of festivities that honor both our nation’s history and Meeteetse’s unique Western heritage.
The celebration kicks off at 4:00 p.m. with a variety of activities for all ages, including a stick horse rodeo, an old-time photo booth, and a quilt exhibition and sale showcasing local craftsmanship. At 4:00 p.m., attendees can also enjoy a cattle drive through town including covered wagons and pack strings – spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for the best viewing experience.
From 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., guests can stroll along Meeteetse’s historic boardwalk and explore local shops, taking in the character and history that make the town special.
A community dinner will be served from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., hosted by the Elkhorn Bar & Grill, offering a chance for the community to come together over a shared meal.
Evening entertainment begins at 7:00 p.m. with a street dance featuring live music from the Jimmy Rush Band. The celebration will conclude with an outdoor movie starting at 9:15 p.m., complete with popcorn. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for a comfortable viewing experience.
“This celebration is about bringing our community together to honor the country’s history in our special Western way. The rancher, the cowboy, and the persevering spirit of the West was and continues to be a pillar of the American way,” said Codi-Brooke, Discover Meeteetse’s Director. “Come hang out with us for an evening of enjoying and reflecting on that.”
