Hunter Education Classes Available in Cody and Powell This Month

Wyoming Hunter Education class enrollment is open and being offered in Cody and Powell.

“If you’re a new hunter, now is the time to take a hunter education course,” said Tara Hodges, information and education specialist for the Cody region. “The earlier you sign up, the better. Classes can fill quickly and you do not want to miss your opportunity to finish a course before the fall hunting season.”

For Powell, classes will be offered at the Park County Fairgrounds August 14th through the 18th. They will meet Monday through Thursday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:25 p.m.

It is requirement in the state of Wyoming for all hunter born after January 1, 1966 to have Hunter Education, with the exception of military members and law enforcement.

Wyoming also offers a mentorship program for aspiring hunters who do not have their hunter safety certification, but would like to have a hunting experience before committing to the certification process.

For hunters who are new to the Cowboy State or those who are not residents of Wyoming, certifications from other states are allowed, but proof of certification is required to obtain a license and must be in the field with hunters at all times.
