Heritage Museum Displays 500 Flags for 250 Celebration

A busy weekend of volunteer work culminated in the display of 500 American flags along Sheridan Avenue.

The effort to erect the flags was spearheaded by Cody Heritage Museum board member Jenny Zink, who secured grant funding from Wyoming’s America 250 program to make the display possible.  On Saturday, a team of volunteers helped assemble the flags, before they were placed along a three-block stretch south of Sheridan Avenue.

Once the work to assemble and place the flags was completed, a ceremony was held Sunday afternoon on the front steps of the Park County Courthouse in Cody to celebrate Flag Day.

Speakers at Sunday’s event included Cody Mayor Lee Ann Reiter, Park County Commission chair Scott Steward, and Park County Travel Council executive director Michael Wamboldt.  The Red Lodge-based brass band Alte Kameraden played a concert in City Park as part of the day’s events as well.

Interested parties can claim one of the 500 3-by-5-foot flags at no cost by signing up at the Cody Heritage Museum.  Flags will be on display through the end of the month, after which they will be distributed to those who signed up.
