There’s another influx of cash flying into Wyoming airports.
U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao announced today the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration will award $49,758,279 in airport aid to 33 airports in Wyoming to help respond to the COVID-19 public health emergency. This is the Act Airport Grant Program, part of the massive funding packet recently allocated by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act passed last week on Capital Hill. Over $10 billion was allocated to airports nationwide.
The goal of this funding is to support continuing operations and replace lost revenue resulting from the sharp decline in passenger traffic and other airport business due to the COVID-19 public health emergency. The funds are available for airport capital expenditures, airport operating expenses including payroll and utilities, and airport debt payments.
Yellowstone Regional Health will receive just over $18 million dollars – almost a 3rd of the total amount and more than any other airport in the state. The next closest is Jackson Hole Airport at a little more than $16 million. Worland and Powell’s regional airports will be getting $30,000 each.
