Wyoming High School Softball was to have a player receive the Gatorade Player Of The Year just to have it taken right back.

Cody High School participated in the inaugural season of High School softball. The Fillies would play the first game ever in Wyoming High School softball history defeating Worland 9-0. Cody would finished second in the west conference with a record of 11-3, 7-3 in conference play.

Cody would make it to the first ever state tournament going 1-2 in the tournament. Cody had multiple athletes receive recognition for their play with All-Conference and All-State.

However there will not be a Gatorade Player Of The Year Award going to any Wyoming high school softball player.

First reported by the Gillette News Record. The article says that Wyoming High School Softball was a part of a trial which meant nobody would receive the honor of Gatorade Player Of The Year. The article said that they would give out an award just to turn around and not give out the award.

The program rules for adding the program is to see if the sport will be sustainable long-term. Gatorade has done this will other sports in different states. Like North Dakota and Vermont.  

Softball is still in the process in being added to the sports in Wyoming that Gatorade will recognize and is expect to be added.
