The 3rd annual Wyoming 48 Hour Film Festival has opened for registration. Open to all Wyoming filmmakers, teams are invited to showcase their creativity in a thrilling cinematic competition.
The Wyoming 48 Hour Film Festival is an annual event that challenges filmmakers to create a short film in just 48 hours. With a focus on creativity, collaboration, and community, the festival provides a platform for emerging and established filmmakers to showcase their talent and connect with like-minded individuals in the vibrant Wyoming filmmaking community. Teams are required to incorporate 3 elements into their films, and given 48 hours to write, shoot, and edit their movie.
Registration is open through June 5th, and teams will compete June 7-9. Teams are required to incorporate a designated prop, a specific line of dialogue, and work within an assigned genre, adding an extra layer of excitement and creativity to the filmmaking process.
“The film community in Wyoming is starving for opportunities,” said Rudi Womack, the Executive Director of the Wyoming 48 Hour Film Festival. “This event gives Wyoming filmmakers, no matter their skill level, a chance to shine, a chance to show their work to real people in a real theater, and a chance to connect with other Wyoming creatives.”
Films screen on July 14th in Cheyenne as an official part of the larger Wyoming International Film Festival, which takes place July 9-14 and will showcase more than 150 films from all over the world. The Wyoming International Film Festival also features live dance, art exhibitions, filmmaker Q&As, and nightly parties.
Andrew Munz, the Artistic Director of Tumbleweed Creative Arts in Jackson, and the winner of last year’s event, shared his experience, saying, “The Wyoming 48 Hour Film Festival was an incredible experience for me and my team. Having the opportunity to share our film ‘Leading Lady’ in a competition with so many other talented filmmaking teams allowed us a wonderful chance to not only compete alongside Wyoming filmmakers but make plenty of incredible connections in the process. We look forward to participating again in the coming years and continuing this wonderful tradition!”
