The Warriors have won all nine of their games this season by an average of nearly 29 points. Worland is 9-0 this season and have played exactly half of their games. Last night at Warrior Gymnasium Worland beat the number 3 ranked team in Wyoming 3A basketball 86-59.
The 27 point win was third highest scoring game for the Warriors this season. Coming into this game Worland had four of the five highest points scored in 3A Boys Basketball.
Powell had the only lead any team has had against the Warriors all season. Four point lead just under five minutes into the game. Fast paced and intense the Panthers would have five players score in the opening period putting 17 on the board. The Warriors answered with points in the paint from Mack Page. His twelve first period points that included a slam dunk that rocked the Covid protocol limited seating Warrior Gym.
Rudy Sanford had four which included a three pointer. Sophomores Brock Douzenis and Court Gonzales combined for seven. Giving the Warriors the first period lead 23-17.
Jorey Anderson, Douzenis, Gonzalez, and Sanford would all go to the free throw line in the first half. There were 25 fouls called combined against both teams in the first half. The Warriors would add twenty more points in the second period. Powell put up eighteen more to end the half only down by eight. 43-35.
Worland came out of the break putting twenty three points up. Powell would score twelve. Eight points from Sanford which included four from the free throw line. Mack Page had six points. Anderson, Gonzales, Douzenis and Kolter Wyman all contributed to the scoring. The third period would end Warriors up 66-47 over the Panthers.
No let up in the fourth period as Worland scored twenty more points in the period. The Panthers had twelve in the final period. Landon Lengfelder would foul out with five minutes remaining in the game as Powell’s leading scorer with seventeen points. Mason Marchant had fifteen. Trevor Groves finished with seven. Three Panthers had four points.
The two All-State Seniors lead the Warriors in scoring. Rudy Sanford had twenty one, ten of those from the free throe line. Mack Page would have twenty six points his highest scoring game of the season. Court Gonzales had thirteen. Brock Douzenis had nine. Jorey Anderson finished with seven points. Kolter Wyman and Carter Clark both had four.
