WHSAA Winter Sports Update

On November 16th the Wyoming High School Activities Association Board of Directors have approved a face covering mandate for all winter sports and activities. This mandate will be for spectators as well as participants and coaches.

A couple of notes to pass along:

For athletics and activities, face coverings must always be worn by coaches, staff, officials, parents, and spectators while in the building. Players and participants should refrain from wearing face coverings during strenuous activity.

Face coverings must always be worn while in the building. Face coverings must be worn regardless of social distancing and/or sitting with immediate family members.

Each school will develop a plan to include visiting spectators in the total number of spectators allowed by the current health orders and directives. Stay tuned for more on that.

For Basketball:

Face coverings are optional while participating but are required at all other times while in the building for everyone during practice (athletes and coaches).

Participants must always wear face coverings while in the building except when playing during the game.

Coaches must always wear face coverings while in the building.

All event workers must always wear face coverings while in the building. Gloves may be worn when appropriate.

There should be no team dinners during the season to assist in limiting exposures.

For Wrestling:

Only two teams per gym will be allowed to compete at the same time. Only one mat in the gym may be used. Dropping a dividing curtain does not constitute two gyms.

Participants must always wear face coverings while in the building except when wrestling their match.

Coaches must always wear face coverings while in the building.

All event workers must wear face coverings. Gloves may be worn when appropriate.

There should be no team dinners during the season to assist in limiting exposures.

For Boys Swimming and Diving:

Face coverings are optional while swimming or diving but are required at all other times while in the building for everyone during practice (athletes and coaches).

Regular season meets will be limited to no more than four high school teams with a limit not to exceed 80 participants.

Participants must always wear face coverings while in the building except when swimming.

Coaches must always wear face coverings while in the building.

All event workers must always wear face coverings while in the building. Gloves may be worn when appropriate.

There should be no team dinners during the season to assist in limiting exposures

For Alpine and Nordic Skiing:

Face coverings are always required when indoors.

Participants must always wear face coverings when not participating in their event.

Coaches must always wear face coverings.

All event workers must always wear face coverings. Gloves may be worn when appropriate.

There should be no team dinners during the season to assist in limiting exposures.

For Spirit Groups:

Face coverings shall not be worn when stunting or tumbling, but are required at all times while in the building for everyone during practice (coaches and athletes).

Events – WHSAA Smart Start Guidelines must be utilized for all events.

Cheer squads will cheer from the bleachers during basketball and wrestling.

Cheer squads will be allowed on the floor during time-outs.

Cheer and Dance squads may perform at half-time or during intermission breaks.

Cheer and Dance squads will be allowed on the floor during the National Anthem as long as proper social distancing is maintained.

Participants must always wear face coverings while in the building except when stunting or tumbling.

Coaches must always wear face coverings while in the building.

No throwing of spirit items into the crowd (i.e. t-shirts, small balls, etc.)

All event workers must always wear face coverings while in the building. Gloves may be worn when appropriate.

There should be no team dinners during the season to assist in limiting exposures.
