Western Wyoming Under Air Quality Advisory For the Rest of the Week

An Air Quality Alert has been issued due to smoke from the nation’s widespread wildfires.

According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, smoke is readily visible covering much of central and western Wyoming. It is limiting visibility in some areas to the point of concern.

In response, the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality, Air Quality Divison, and the Wyoming Department of Health jointly issued the Air Quality Warning. Wildlife smoke is known to contain several pollutants that can cause or worsen respiratory health problems.

It is strongly encouraged that the following higher-risk individuals avoid excessive physical exertion and outdoor activities:

  • Elderly individuals
  • Young children
  • Anyone with existing respiratory problems.

Prolonged exposure is discouraged for all Wyoming residents, regardless of health.

The Air Quality Advisory will remain in effect until noon Friday, September 25.

This is in addition to the Red Flag Warning for critical fire weather conditions, in effect until 9 PM Thursday night.
