WATCH: Wyoming Highway Patrol Video of Trooper’s Close Call on I-80

Wyoming Highway Patrol Video of Trooper’s close call on I-80 has gone viral across social media.  WHP shared a video of a dramatic close call on I-80 near Rawlins. The hair-raising video is a stark reminder for drivers to slow down when approaching emergency vehicles.  In the latest winter storm to hit the state of Wyoming, many highways have been closed state-wide due to snowfall totals as high winds blow and drift snow across roads.

WHP tweeted the following reminder along with the video of the most recent close call.

“Move over and slow down for emergency vehicles!

One of our WHP Troopers nearly got hit by a commercial semi-tractor and trailer recently. The near miss occurred near Rawlins, Wyoming, on Interstate 80.

Please slow down, and move over for emergency vehicles.”

A comment on Wyoming Highway Patrol’s Facebook page stated “Luckily, no law enforcement or first responders lost their lives to this out-of-control vehicle. Please remember that emergency personnel want to be able to make it home safely at the end of their shift,” confirming the WHP Trooper was not injured and reminding drivers to slow down for the safety of everyone.

The extreme cold weather is predicted to continue throughout the state over the next few days.  Gusting winds and subzero temperatures are creating drift across roads and highways, prompting The Wyoming Department of Transportation to close highways.  WYDOT is also reminding drivers to check wyoroad.info/ or call 511 before traveling and to obey all closures.
