After the resignation of Peg Monteith, Assistant Superintendent Tim Foley will lead the Cody school district until a permanent superintendent can be found.
The Park County School District #6 Board of Trustees released the agenda for a special board meeting on Wednesday, July 28. One of the agenda items is naming Tim Foley – a long-time Cody resident and school administrator – as the interim superintendent for the 2021-2022 school year.
Foley is a familiar face in Cody’s schools – he has served as Assistant Superintendent of Park County School District #6 since July 2016. Before that, he was the principal of Cody Middle School for five years (2011 to 2016.)
In March 2021, Foley’s contract was renewed by the Board of Trustees.
Foley’s appointment to interim superintendent follows the sudden resignation of Peg Monteith, who retired a year earlier than anticipated last week.
During an emergency board meeting on Friday, July 23, the immediate resignation and early retirement request of Monteith was unanimously accepted. Brandi Nelson, the chairperson of the Board of Trustees, read a statement thanking Monteith for her service as interim superintendent since January 2020.
The Board of Trustees voted to remove superintendent Ray Schulte in January 2020, with two years remaining on his contract. This decision was immediate and unexpected, causing significant controversy in the community.
Foley served as assistant superintendent under both Schulte and Monteith. This gives him a consistent presence of leadership during a time of significant upheaval in the leadership of Cody schools.
