The Lovell Bulldogs came to Warrior Gymnasium Saturday night for their Northwest Quad Conference opener. The Bulldogs were 3-5 for the season and had just won two in a row over Riverside and Greybull.
The Bulldogs start four Seniors. C.J. Pickett averages just under twelve points a game and is Lovell’s leading scorer. Senior Zeke Newman also averages double digits with ten points per game average.
Lovell ranks ninth in scoring in Wyoming 3A basketball with nearly forty nine points per game. Defensively they are ranked third allowing the same forty nine points.
Cason James had five points in the opening period, Aden Mayes had four. Both Seniors would account for the nine points Lovell scored in the first period.
Worland, by their own standards, started slow. Mack Page had six points.Court Gonzalez with four.Rudy Sanford hit early from long distance with three. Jorey Anderson got two. For the Warriors fifteen first period points. Ending the period with a six point lead 15-9.
The start of the second period would see the Warriors pick up the pace. Page would put up nine in the period. Sanford swished another three as did Brock Douzenis. Worland would put up twenty seven points in the second. They were also able to shut down the scoring of both James and Mayes. Lovell added nine more to their total to end the half 42-18.
Third period saw Carter Clark light it up nailing two three pointers and stretching the lead. Bench play from Landon Gilmore and Kolter Wyman slowed the Bulldog offense scoring thirteen points with the Worland starters on the bench for the majority of the period. The Warriors would add twenty of their own as bench play lead the way to a 62-31 third period finish.
The starting five came back out to begin the fourth period. Court, Brock, Mack, and Rudy all scored and were substituted for early in the final period scoring nine points. Defensively The Warriors subs played outstanding. Three from off the bench scored with Clark finishing with twelve points. Gilmore with four points two from the foul line. Riley Blood got a basket for two points of his own.
Four Warriors finished with double digit scoring. Mack Page with seventeen. Brock Douzenis with eleven. Court Gonzalez had ten. Also Clark’s twelve. Final score was a thirty point win over the Bulldogs 73-43.
