The Playoffs Are Here, The Broncs Bearcats Matchup By The Numbers

The Wyoming High School Football Playoffs begin Friday.

Here in Cody the 3A matchup between the number 3 seed from the East Conference Douglas Bearcats and the 2 seed from the West Conference kickoff at 6pm at Spike Vannoy Stadium.

The Bearcats finished their regular season with a 6-2 overall record and a 4-1 conference record.

The Douglas losses were to Powell 47-7, and to Buffalo 13-3 both losses were on the road.

Cody finished the regular season 8-1 overall and 4-1 in conference with the lone loss to Star Valley in Week 6 by the score 41-14.

This will be only the 10th time these 2 teams have meet, the first meeting was in the 2009 State Championship.

Douglas has won 7 of the first 9 games including the 2009 State Championship 44-14.

The Broncs would win the 2014 State Championship game 19-0.

The last game between the 2 was in 2016 a game Douglas won 36-12.

Cody and Douglas had been playing their Zero Week games against each other until this season.

The weather looks to be somewhat of a factor as the temperature is forecasted in the teens at kickoff with snow expected to fall by halftime.

WyoPreps has Cody ranked number 2 in the latest Coaches and Media Poll, Douglas is unranked.

Cody has the number 1 ranked rushing team in Wyoming 3A Football averaging 256 yards per game for a total of 2300 yards in the regular season with 33 touchdown and 4 fumbles.

In all of Wyoming High School football at the end of the season regardless of class team rushing ranked:

Dubois (1A 6-man) number 1 with 2610 rushing yards, Snake River (1A 6-man) number 2 with 2455 yards, Lyman (2A) 2349 yards number 3, Cody is number 4 with 2300 yards and Sheridan is number 5 with 2202 yards.

The Broncs are ranked number 5 in passing for Wyoming 3A football with 1582 yards total an average of 176 yards per game with 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Cody has the number 1 ranked overall offense in Wyoming 3A football with 3882 yards for an average of 431 yards per game with 54 touchdowns, and 15 turnovers.

Defensively for the Broncs they have the number 2 ranked defense against the run allowing just 857 yards on the ground for an average of merely 95 yards per game, giving up only 7 touchdowns all season with 13 fumble recoveries.

The Bronc passing defense is ranked 10th in Wyoming 3A football giving up 1459 yards this season an average of 162 passing yards per game allowing 8 touchdowns with 15 interceptions and 17 sacks.

Overall the Broncs have the 4th ranked defense in Wyoming 3A football allowing 2316 yards for the season an average of 257 yards per game giving up 15 touchdowns with a 3A team high of 28 turnovers.

Cody is plus 13 in turnovers.

The Douglas Bearcats have the number 5 ranked rushing offense in Wyoming 3A football with 1322 yards rushing and an average of 165 yards per game with 17 touchdowns and 8 fumbles.

The Bearcat passing game is ranked 6th in 3A gaining 1185 yards total with an average of 148 yards per game with12 touchdowns and 9 interceptions.

Douglas has the 7th ranked offense overall gaining 2507 yards this season an average of 313 per game with 29 touchdowns and 17 turnovers.

On the defensive side of the ball the Bearcats are ranked 6th against the run allowing 1130 yards for an average 141 yards giving up 5 touchdowns and 11 fumble recoveries.

The Bearcats have the 9th ranked passing defense allowing 1234 total yards for an average of 154 per game giving up 14 touchdowns with 11 interceptions.

Overall the Bearcat defense is ranked 7th giving up 2364 yards this season for an average of 296 per game allowing 19 touchdowns with 21 turnovers.

Douglas is plus 4 in turnovers.

The Broncs have the top Running Back in Wyoming 3A football in Junior Grady McCarten with 1030 yards this season, averaging 114.4 yards per game on 107 attempts for a 9.6 average per carry with 12 touchdowns.

McCarten is the 5th ranked back in all of Wyoming in 11 man football in total yardage, 2A Lyman’s Carter Bradshaw leads the State in yards with 1224, Grady has the highest yards per carry in Wyoming 11 man football.

Junior Bronc Quarterback Maddax Ball is the 4th ranked passer in Wyoming 3A football with 1541 yards in the air an average of 171.2 yards per game 130 for 200 with a 65% completion rate with 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Maddax is the Broncs second leading rusher with 267 yards and 7 rushing touchdowns.

Senior Chase Hatch is a Wyoming 3A top 10 wide receiver with 30 catches for 460 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Senior Jacob Ball leads the team in catches with31 for 299 yards and 3 touchdowns, AJ Baustert has 12 catches for 206 yards and a touchdown followed by Jace Jarrett with 14 catches for 173 yards and a touchdown.

Hatch leads the Broncs defensively with 69 tackles, 3 interceptions, 6 pass breakups and a forced fumble.

Senior Connor Moss has 60 tackles 12 tackles for a loss, a sack, 2 forced fumbles, 2 pass breakups and a defensive touchdown.

Senior Trey Schroeder has 39 tackles, 8 tackles for a loss, a sack, 2 interceptions and 5 pass breakups.

Douglas’ Senior Quarterback Trey Rinn is the teams leading passer with 1186 yards passing with 12 touchdowns and 8 interceptions, Rinn is also the teams leading rusher with 721 yards for the season on 118 attempts with 11 touchdowns, his longest run was for 86 yards. Rinn contributes 75% of the Bearcat offense.

Brody Wagner is the Bearcats second leading rusher with 442 yards on 84 carries and 1 touchdown.

The top receivers for Douglas are Trennan Pearson with his 25 receptions for 423 yards and 7 touchdowns followed by Cash Tillard with 25 catches for 311 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Defensively the Bearcats are lead by Carter Archuleta with 99 tackles, 36 are solo, 12.5 for a loss. Carter has 2 interceptions 1 pass breakup, 1 forced fumble.

Archuleta is the leading defense point earner in Wyoming 3A football and leads the State in defense with 165 points.

Defensive Lineman number 79 Teagan Seeds has 48 tackles, 14 of them solo, 8 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks, 5 fumble recoveries and 1 pass breackup.

Brody Wagner has 58 tackles, 21 solo, 6 tackles for loss, and 5 pass breakups.

Cash Tillard leads the team with 4 interceptions.
