The local outdoor retailer is the latest Cody business to voluntarily close after an employee was exposed to a confirmed case of COVID-19.
The temporary closure was announced on Saturday morning after an unidentified employee had a “COVID exposure.” The employee in question did work a shift 48 hours after the exposure but does not have a position with any customer contact.
By the time Sunlight Sports announced its closure on Facebook, the employee was experiencing COVID symptoms.
The store plans to reopen Tuesday, Oct. 20.

Sunlight Sports is one of several local businesses to close voluntarily during the pandemic. The Irma closed on Sept. 25 after nine of its employees tested positive for COVID-19. They reopened after an 11-day closure on Oct. 7.
Contrary to public belief, none of these closures are mandatory. Park County Public Health does not have the power to shut down businesses when employees test positive for COVID-19. The closure is decided by the business owners, not any state or health officials.
In their Facebook post, Sunlight’s team said their closure was due to “an abundance of caution, and to take care of both (their) employees and community.”
