Sold! Park County School District #6 Sells Old Cody Bus Barn

After months of discussion and bidding, the Cody school district unanimously voted to accept a sizeable bid for the 20th Street building and property.

The Park County School District #6 April 20 board meeting was full of potent topics. Much of the discussion centered around voting to request a mask variance for all K-12 schools in Cody, which unanimously passed.

But the Board of Trustees brought another issue to a close that evening. A bid for the old bus barn on 20th Street was discussed and accepted during the same board meeting.

Since the construction of the new facility at 3825 Sheridan Avenue, the district has been hoping to sell the old bus barn. The board ultimately decided to put the building and property up for bid, hoping for a quick sell.

That didn’t happen – months went by without a single bid. Undeterred, the board extended the bidding period in the hope at least one interested party would appear.

The winning bid for the bus barn and property was $430,000 – significantly higher than the district was expecting.

This was one of two bids for the old bus barn – both submitted during the board’s extension of the bidding period.

The budgeted amount for the entire parcel was $345,000. Now, the district has unburdened itself of the past while gained an unexpected $85,000.

When Chairperson Brandi Nelson presented the board with a vote for the higher of the two bids, it passed without dissent. After the vote, many board members acknowledged that the long process has finally ended.

The winning party was Cloud Peak Development LLC., a new company located in Cody.

There isn’t much public information on the new owner of the 20th Street property. The website Bizapedia lists the company as Wyoming Domestic Limited-Liability Company, filed on April 1, 2021.

The registered agent on file for Cloud Peak Development is Kane Bruce Morris of Cody. Other listed company contacts are Kyle Dunham of Sheridan and Richard Childress of Garden City, Idaho.

The company’s principal address is 1203 Sheridan Avenue. It’s the same building as Open Range Images at Sheridan and 12th Street.

For the district, it ends the long process of building and relocating the bus barn. The new facility finished construction in January and has been handling the district’s buses all year.

Now, Park County School District #6 can rest easy knowing the bus barn saga has reached its final stop.
