Today, on December 2nd, Sleeping Giant kicked off the 22-23 ski season with a “Park County Day” where guests enjoyed discounted lift tickets.
While the ribbon cutting was postponed due to road and weather conditions, it was still a gorgeous morning on the mountain as skiers and snowboarders hit the slopes early.
Road conditions on the North Fork toward Sleeping Giant and Yellowstone were not ideal — roads were covered in snow and snowplows were busy working to make the highway as passable as possible.
The Sleeping Giant ski hill was established in 1936 in the Shoshone National Forest. As ski hills have turned into massive resorts or have been pushed out of business. However, the community of Cody has made significant efforts to sustain this historic community ski hill.
Runs were freshly groomed with plenty of snow-cover on the hill and the temperatures was around 20° degrees at 9:30 am.
The Piazza family hopes to see Sleeping Giant become the hub for outdoor recreation at the East gate of Yellowstone.
