Rep. Hageman Votes In Favor Of Protecting Rights Of Legal Citizens To Vote

Congresswoman Harriet Hageman is voting in favor of H.R. 8281, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act), which protects and preserves the right of American citizens to vote. Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) introduced the bill, cosponsored by Rep. Hageman, which requires states to obtain proof of citizenship—in person—when registering an individual to vote and requires states to remove non-citizens from existing voter rolls.

One of the core issues that voters are concerned about for the upcoming election is securing the nation’s southern border, but also not allowing people who are here illegally to be able to vote in the 2024 elections.

“It is critical citizens have full confidence that our elections are free and fair, and only United States citizens who are registered voters can cast a ballot in any federal election. For those who would say there are no issues, Massachusetts, Virginia, and Ohio have recently found and removed noncitizens from their voter registration rolls, yet even with this knowledge, many states have refused to verify their own records. Because Joe Biden has allowed over 11 million illegals to enter our country since he took office, the need to ensure only citizens are voting has grown even greater,” Representative Hageman says.

“While we must be careful not to federalize our elections, we should all be working towards ensuring election integrity through common-sense solutions such as voter ID, adopting safeguards preventing non-citizens from voting, requiring signature verification, and implementing chain-of-custody requirements for ballots. To oppose these solutions is to oppose honest elections – plain and simple.

“I have long held that to secure our federal elections we must require a citizenship question for apportionment and require proof of citizenship when registering to vote. House Republicans already passed the Equal Representation Act to require a citizenship question, and now the SAVE Act will ensure integrity in the electoral process is restored.”
