HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER. THE POWELL PANTHERS ARE HARD AT WORK PREPARING FOR THE 2019 CAMPAIGN. AARON PAPICH RETURNS AS HEAD COACH OF THE PANTHERS AND HE LIKES WHAT HE’S SEEN FROM THE TEAM EARLY ON, ESPECIALLY THE SENIOR LEADERSHIP.

“OUR GUYS HAVE REALLY DONE A GOOD JOB OF HOLDING PLAYERS ACCOUNTABLE AND SETTING A GOOD EXAMPLE FOR OUR YOUNGER PLAYERS FROM THE SUMMER IN THE WEIGHT ROOM TO THE START OF OUR 2 A DAY PRACTICES. OUR TEAM HAS DONE A TREMENDOUS JOB LEADING OUR PROGRAM AND HELPING OUT OUR YOUNG PLAYERS WITH THE THINGS THEY NEED TO KNOW.”

IN HIGH SCHOOL THEIR IS NO PRE-SEASON SO MANY SCHOOLS WILL TAKE PART IN SCRIMMAGES AGAINST FOES THEY MAY NOT SEE DURING THE REGULAR SEASON. THE PANTHERS WILL DO JUST THAT, SCRIMMAGING RIVERTON TONIGHT. COACH PAPICH SAYS THIS IS A GOOD OPPORTUNITY FOR HIS PLAYERS TO EXPERIENCE A GAME LIKE ATMOSPHERE.

“IT’S ONE OF THOSE THINGS WHERE YOU CAN’T GO 50 PERCENT OR HALFWAY. YOU’RE EITHER PLAYING OR YOUR NOT. CERTAIN MODIFICATIONS WON’T GET IN THE WAY TO MUCH. SO WE’RE JUST GOING TO LINE-UP, PLAY AND DO THE BEST WE CAN. KNOW RIVERTON IS GOING TO BRING THEIR A GAME. I KNOW THEY’RE GOING TO DO A GOOD JOB. I THINK IT WILL BE GOOD COMPETITION BETWEEN OUR TWO TEAMS.”

COACH PAPICH GOES ON TO OUTLINE WHAT HE AND THE TEAM HAS BEEN DOING TO PREPARE FOR RIVERTON.

“JUST TRY TO BE REALLY EFFICIENT WITH WHAT WE’RE TEACHING OUR PLAYERS SO THAT THEY CAN GO OUT AN EXECUTE. GIVING THEM LOTS OF REPS, LOTS OF OPPORTUNITIES AT PRACTICE, BEING AS CLEAR AS WE CAN WITH OUR TECHNIQUES. NOT MAKING IT OVERLY COMPLEX BECAUSE WE WANT THEM OUT THERE PLAYING AND COMPETING AT A HIGH LEVEL.”

THE POWELL PANTHERS FOOTBALL TEAM TRAVELS TO RIVERTON HIGH SCHOOL FRIDAY (TODAY) FOR A SCRIMMAGE VS. RIVERTON. KICK-OFF IS SCHEDULED FOR 7PM. THE PANTHERS GET REGULAR SEASON PLAY UNDERWAY FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 6TH WHEN THEY HOST WORLAND FOR A 7PM KICK-OFF.
