Phase 2 Concludes on Sheridan Avenue

Construction season ends on Sheridan Avenue as the colder temperatures and snowy weather of the winter season settles into Cody.

Phase 2 of the Sheridan Avenue rehabilitation project concludes due to the persistent winter weather currently enveloping Cody. In the last weekly update of 2020, WYDOT and primary contractor S&S Builders of Gillette announced that all the construction equipment and traffic controls were removed Monday and will not be back in place for several months.

This means that normal traffic patterns and speed limits return throughout the construction zone, which by conclusion had gotten a little further than anticipated. The milder weather of early December gave construction crews a chance to get a head start on next spring’s work, moving past the Phase 2 endpoint at Alger Avenue and moving up Greybull Hill.

So, what’s in store for 2021? They moved on thru Sheridan Avenue – and now they take it higher.

Phase 3 will begin where Phase 2 left off: broken curb and gutter, double gutter, double gutter, sidewalk, and concrete pavement on the Greybull Hill between Alger Avenue through Stampede Ave will be replaced next spring – starting in late February or early March, weather permitting.

That work will continue until June 15. At this point, it will either stop for the summer or be finished off completely. There is a Phase 4 tentatively planned for the project, but the hope is that everything will be completed by the Phase 3 deadline.

Work remaining for 2021 includes the following:

  • Replacement of broken curb and gutter, double gutter, double gutter, sidewalk, and concrete pavement from Alger Avenue through Stampede Ave.
  • Grinding and Texturing from East Sheridan Avenue through Stampede Ave.
  • Cleaning and sealing concrete joints from 14th Street through Stampede Avenue.
  • Sod areas at Good to Go, Holiday Inn, and Antler Inn will be placed in the spring of 2021.

Paving at the Comfort Inn will be completed as needed in the spring of 2021, as will landscaping and sprinkler items at Walgreens, Wendy’s, Holiday Inn, Pinnacle Bank, and other areas once the ground thaws in the spring.

There’s good reason to anticipate the project’s completion by June 15, as S&S Builders will receive a $200 thousand bonus if that deadline is met.

In the meantime, Sheridan Avenue and 17th Street will be completely uninhibited for the next few months. When work resumes next year, there will be plenty of public notice so keep following the news on mybighornbasin.com and tuning in to KODI for the latest updates as they occur.

Special thanks are extended from the contractors and construction workers to the residents of Cody. Our cooperation during Phases 1 and 2 have been “greatly appreciated.”
