Several leaders in the Bighorn Basin gathered to hear the state of preparedness in Park County.
Jack Tatum, the Director of the Park County Homeland Security Office, led the quarterly meeting of the Local Emergency Planning Committee. Representatives from Cody, Powell, and Meeteetse were in attendance to discuss the success of the goals they set during their last meeting in August. Several steps have been taken to increase public awareness of the department and committee.
There was also a brief discussion of the THIRA – Threat and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment – which reviewed Park County’s strengths and weaknesses in regards to dealing with crisis situations.
Tatum elaborated on the regional cooperation currently taking place between Park, Washakie, Hot Springs, and Bighorn counties. The four counties will be undergoing training and exercises in conjunction with each other so all benefit from the experience. Park County has more critical infrastructure than the other three counties combined, and will be the leader of this Bighorn Basin collaboration.
The next quarterly meeting of the Park County Local Emergency Planning Committee will be in February 2020.
