Wyoming officials announce four new COVID-19 deaths
A Park County resident has died in an out-of-state long-term care facility in connection with the novel coronavirus, health officials say.
Tuesday, the Wyoming Department of Health released details on four new deaths associated with the pandemic. Among the deceased was one from Park County – an older woman who had been living in an out-of-state long-term care facility when she was exposed to the virus, and passed away in an out-of-state hospital.
As Park County was her place of permanent residence, the death was added as an official casualty for the county.
The department website clarifies that deaths among Wyoming residents are added to the state’s coronavirus-related death total based on official death certificate information and the location of the person’s permanent place of residence.
Deaths among Wyoming residents who pass away in other states are not counted in both states, just home states.
If death certificates do not describe COVID-19 as either causing or contributing to a person’s death, those deaths are not included in Wyoming’s count of coronavirus-related deaths. That’s why a death from late July in another state is now attributed to Park County – that was this woman’s home.
