There’s a new headquarters from some of Park County’ finest responders.
Saturday, August 1st, was the official dedication of Park County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue new building. The event was a celebration of the organization’s history as much as the future lives that will be saved thanks to this new facility. Originally started as a ragtag group of five members in 1970, under the leadership of Kirk Waggoner, the group has evolved into an incredibly effective and successful unit. Original members and one of the jeeps used in the initial efforts made an appearance at the event.
There was an overwhelming amount of pride for what Park County Search and Rescue has accomplished in the 50 years since its founding. But much of their praise went to the people and businesses who have unwaveringly supporting the team since its inception. This is best encapsulated by the plaque installed on the front of the new facility – “Working Together, So Others May Live” – where the success of Search and Rescue is largely thanks to the community support during the slow moments in addition to the moments of heightened activity that saves lives.
As for the building itself, it was formally named for the man most responsible for the unit and helped make it one of the best in the West – the Kirk Waggoner Search and Rescue Building.
