Park County Representative Joins Board of Wyoming Women’s Legislative Caucus

Park County District 24 Representative Sandy Newsome is the newest leader of the Wyoming Women’s Legislative Caucus, growing the state’s legacy of women in leadership.

On Monday, Jan. 16, the Wyoming Women’s Legislative Caucus (WyoWLC) announced that Representative Sandy Newsome (Park County District 24) joined the Wyoming Women’s Legislative Caucus Board of Directors. Representative Trey Sherwood of Laramie joins her as the newest member of the board.

Newsome was elected to the Wyoming Legislature in 2019, representing House District 24 in Park County. Rep. Newsome serves on two prominent committees in the Wyoming House: Travel, Recreation, Wildlife & Cultural Resources Committee and  Corporations, Elections & Political Subdivisions, where she serves as Chairman. When not representing her District, Newsome has been a small business owner in downtown Cody for over thirty years.

Sherwood was elected to the Wyoming Legislature in 2021, representing House District 14 in Albany County. She has served on Management Audit, Minerals, Business, and Economic Development and is currently on the House Appropriations Committee. When not in Session, Sherwood is the Executive Director of the Laramie Main Street Alliance, assisting businesses located in downtown Laramie.

As a board member, Sherwood shared, “I am excited to encourage women in Wyoming to seek out leadership positions on campaigns (and) local boards and run for office. Regardless of party affiliation, women bring a unique perspective on Wyoming’s most pressing issues. Our voices are needed at the table”.

Newsome and Sherwood also join current board member Senator Affie Ellis (Laramie County District 8) as Co-Chairs of the 16th Annual Leap into Leadership Conference that will be held February 22-23, 2023, in Cheyenne.

Sherwood and Newsome bring great enthusiasm and support to the WyWLC Board, which has existed since 2006.

Each year, the caucus hosts the Leap Into Leadership Conference to inform, educate and engage Wyoming women in leadership roles in both the public and private sectors. Conference dates are Feb. 22-23 in Cheyenne.

The non-partisan Wyoming Women’s Legislative Caucus is governed by a volunteer board of current and former Wyoming women legislators. The caucus “hopes to continue to encourage Wyoming women to be part of the conversation and take on leadership roles for many years to come.”
