The Northwest College Women’s basketball team took to the hardwood for the first official time this season, on Thursday, and opened their 2021 campaign with a thrilling 73-64 OT win over the Utah All-Stars in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The Lady Trappers would open up a three point lead after one quarter and extended that to an eight point lead at the half, sitting on top at the intermission 33-25.
A nine point advantage for the Utah All-Stars in the third quarter helped them get back into the game but Northwest took over in the extra frame outscoring Utah 12-3 to open the season victorious.
Samiyah Worrell led the way for NWC with 20 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Kierra Cutright had 7 points and 11 rebounds. Sydney Prather added 10 points.
The Northwest College Women’s basketball team will be back in action Friday and Saturday vs. the Salt Lake All-Stars and Salt Lake Community College.

In some other Northwest College athletic action to pass along, both the men’s basketball team and the volleyball team will be in action for the first time this season as well, this weekend. Both men’s and women’s basketball are competing in Utah while the volleyball team is in Scottsbluff, NE.
The men’s basketball team officially got their season underway Thursday with a game against Layton Christian. Still awaiting results of that contest. They will be back in action Saturday vs. Ignite Prep for a one in the afternoon contest.
And the NWC volleyball team officially starts their season Friday with a contest vs. Trinidad State Junior College. Following that contest they will take on Western Nebraska Community College later Friday night.
On Saturday, NWC Volleyball will be matched-up against Otero Junior College at 10 in the moring and then face McCook Community College at 1pm. All these contests are taking place in Scottsbluff, NE.
While all teams have competed in exhibition games already this season, this weekend marks their return to regular season play.
