On March 26th at 3PM years of work, from behind the scenes, and a vision came true. Wyoming was playing Girls High School Fastpitch Softball.
The enthusiasm from the fans was incredible. Former Softball player and retired Worland High School teacher Jacque Pike was in attendance. “Do you know what this means? It’s a big deal.” She would say about the Event.
“It was a little nerve racking if I’m being honest.” Worland pitcher Brooklynn Hellyer would say. “We just want to do well so they will all come back.”
“To be in the moment, and to be one of those people is just insane.” Lady Warrior Senior Catcher Carmyn Buckman would say about being on the first Wyoming High School Girls Fastpitch Softball team in Worland High School history.
The Lady Warriors were dealt a one hit, 10 strike out shutout, from Cody Fillies Freshman Pitcher Ellie Ungrund.
Senior second base Vivian Hawkins started the game with a hit on the fourth pitch of the game from Ungrund. It would be the only hit of the game for Worland.
Hawkins would reach base in all three of her at bats as the leadoff hitter for the Lady Warriors.
In the top of the 2nd inning Ungrund hit a deep fly ball to straight away Centerfield. Sophomore Brooke Wright would snag the towering fly and make a great catch that would raise the crowd to it’s feet. “Oh, my gosh. What a Rockstar she was.” Head Coach Crystal Redding would say about Wright.
Worland will have a two game home stand next Friday and Saturday. April 9th against Rock Springs. The Lady Tigers beat Natrona County 5-1 on Friday and lost to Kelly Walsh on Saturday 8-5. Saturday the Lady Warriors will face the Green River Lady Wolves at 10AM. The Lady Wolves lost to Kelly Walsh 31-3 on Friday and 21-1 against Natrona County on Saturday.
