The Lady Warrior Volleyball team’s season came to an end in the last game of the season, the Wyoming 3A State Championship game. The road to get there was a tough as it comes. The first match of the State Tournament would be the defending State Champion Rawlins Lady Outlaws. Worland would avenge their loss in last seasons State Championship to Rawlins by winning in straight sets. 25-18, 25-22, 26-24. Next up the number one ranked team in Wyoming 3a Volleyball Pinedale Lady Wranglers 25-21, 16-25, 25-17, 25-15. The Lady Warriors would win 3-1 and move on to the State Championship for the second year in a row.
The Mountain View Lady Buffalos who finished third in the Southwest Quad at 2-4 behind both Pinedale and Lyman. The number two ranked team in 3A Lyman Lady Eagles were beaten in the Southwest Quad Tournament and didn’t make the State Tournament. This would be the second match between Mountain View and Worland in a week. The Lady Buffalos would win the first match in four sets 3-1. The second match, with good defense and very few errors the Mountain View Lady Buffalos would win the Wyoming 3A State Volleyball Championship.
Worland Lady Warriors Volleyball has won 5 State Volleyball Titles. The 1979-1980 teams went to a Title match in 1979 and lost to Lander and would bring home Worland’s first Volleyball State Title the next season in 1980. The most prolific era in Lady Warrior Volleyball would be later in the decade, going to four straight State Championships from 1986-1989 winning the Wyoming 3A State Title three times. 1986, 1988, 1989. The 1987 team lost to Powell in the State Championship match. The 1997 Lady Warrior Volleyball team that lost the State Championship to Mountain View, would be the highest any Worland Volleyball team would finish in the next 18 years. Fortunes would change as the 2015 Lady Warrior team would win the first State 3A Volleyball title in 26 years.
The current Lady Warrior team has played in consecutive Wyoming 3A State Volleyball Championship matches for the first time in 31 years. This team also showcases talent that has been recognized by the State of Wyoming Coaches Association. There were four Lady Warriors to make the All-Conference Team. Three of the girls were also on the 2019 All-Conference Team. Darla Hernandez, Denali Jones and Payton Julson. Tymberlynn Crippen makes the team for the first time. Three Lady warriors would make the All-State Team. Denali Jones and Payton Julson both make the team for the second year in a row. Senior Tymberlynn Crippen receives her first All-State recognition. Congratulations to all four girls and the 2020 Worland Lady Warrior Volleyball team.
