Keaton Stone is the definition of consistency. On the football field he’s an iron man, one who never seemed to come off the field. That in turn helped Stone and the Cody Bronc Football team capture a state title. The trophies don’t stop there. Over the weekend Stone was named to the first team of the Casper Star-Tribune Super 25 as one of the best players in the state of Wyoming. He along with Nic Talich combined to be one of the most lethal linebacker duos the Cowboy State had to offer. I was able to catch up with Cody’s Linebacker/Tight End to talk to him about the first team selection and more. Stone on what it means to be recognized as one of the top 25 player in the state.
“It’s awesome to be recognized for just how good I’ve played. I didn’t expect it exactly but it’s awesome that people and coaches just think I’m good. I’ve been able to get better and my senior year’s been really good. It’s just, top 25, crazy to think even just a couple years ago I’d be at that but it’s awesome.”
On defense, Stone would finish the season with 158 defensive points, 14.1 defensive points per game. Stone had 99 tackles on the season, six for a loss and one sack. He would also recover two fumbles.
On offense, Stone had 167 receiving yards on 13 catches and scored three touchdowns. Keaton sasy his ability to consistently stay on the field payed off big time.
“Yeah, I’d say definitely I played probably the most minutes. Last year I think, too, I played the most minutes on the team and it’s good sometimes and I’m glad I can always be there and just change it but sometimes it gets a little tiring. I remember some games, like just one or two plays out. It gets tiring at times but it’s awesome just to know I can always help and be there and just a good feeling knowing I’m always there for the team.”
Obviously winning a state title is something you’ll never forget get and Keaton adds to that saying it was their first win against Jackson that he’ll always remember because of what that win symbolized about the team.
“Probably when we went to Jackson. We were, I wouldn’t say afraid, we just respected them. They were good and we just got up two and then three and then four touchdowns. It’s like, man this is, we’re good. We’re going to do good and maybe win state. It just felt good knowing we’re the best in the state at that point.”
While Keaton is humbled to be recognized for his efforts on the field he says it doesn’t compare to winning a state title.
“Oh no, yeah. Doesn’t matter if you get this, if you didn’t win state it doesn’t feel as good but winning state and getting this is good but the state, that’s where you want to finish at the end of the season, your last game winning and we did that.”
Keaton Stone is one of four Cody Bronc Football players that were named to the Super 25. He and fellow linebacker, Nic Talich were voted to the first team. Jonny Williams was voted to the second team while Cody Phillips made third team. Stay tuned to the Big Honr Radio Network next week to hear from Jonny Williams.
