Nic Talich is headed to the University of Wyoming to play football. Talich will be a preferred walk-on for the Cowboys. Talich follows the footsteps of his dad, Jim, who to this day is the 3rd all-time leading tackler in Cowboy football history. This past season for the Cody High School, Nic was instrumental in the Broncs State Championship season. Talich led Class 3A in defensive points, averaging 23.1 per game. That was 3rd best in 11-man football (Class 3A & 4A combined). He had 128 tackles, 11.6 per game. Talich had seven tackles for a loss, two sacks, one fumble recovery, four interceptions and one defensive touchdown. You can hear that pick six call at the 1:21:10 mark here:
Nic would go on to capture the Casper Star-Tribune Super 25 Defensive Player of the Year and made the first team: https://kodiradio.com/nic-talich-super-25-dpoy/
The Super 25 honors the best high school football players in Wyoming, regardless of class or position.
In addition to being name to the Super 25 he also received the 3A West DPOY: https://kodiradio.com/wyoming-all-state-all-conference-football-honors-announced/
As always, I had the pleasure of catching up with Nic to talk to him and that interview can be heard here:
Nic’s dad Jim was a force at Wyoming in his tenure. The elder Talich played for the Cowboys from 1994-97 and was named 1st Team All-WAC in 1996. To this day he is the program’s third all-time leading tackler with 440. I also caught up with Jim, Defensive Coordinator for Cody football, to talk about Nic’s signing and more.
Prior to heading to Wyoming, Nic will don the Blue and Gold for Cody High School one final time at the 48th annual Wyoming Shrine Bowl on June 12th in Casper: https://kodiradio.com/north-team-shrine-bowl-roster-filled-with-local-area-talent/
