From State Champs in Baseball to playing in a State Title game for football, it’s been a heck of a ride for Cody Phillips and Devyn Engdahl. Back in July Phillips and Engdahl were a part of the Cody Cubs State Baseball title team and now just over four months later they have helped lead the Cody Broncs to the State Championship football team. Devyn, who didn’t play last year, talks about what it feels like to be playing for another State Title.
“Feels good. We’re pretty lucky to get to play in two state championships in one year. Let alone, or at least one that’s plenty but two is pretty amazing.”
Devyn goes on to give praise to his teammates for stepping up big on defense in the second half of Friday’s game.
“Our defense is amazing. Nic Talich and Keaton Stone, they’re kind of our guys and they just do everything for us.”
As for getting ready for next week’s game Devyn says it’s pretty simple what they have to do to prepare
“Stay focused, watch film and wear our masks.”
As for Cody Phillips, he has been a go to guy all season for the Broncs. A Swiss army knife of sorts, and adds there’s still unfinished business.
“We got one goal in mind and it’s next week and that’s all we have on our mind.”
With 10 plus players getting a touch for the Broncs Friday night, Cody reiterates again, just how much fun it is playing with this team.
“We come out with confidence and energy. You know everyone’s confident that they can make the play when their name is called.”
Cody adds what it’s going to be like hosting Jackson for the title game on their own turf.
“It feels amazing. You know we can’t overlook Jackson because of the last time we played them. They’re a lot better team than we saw the last time. So we’ve got to be ready.”
The Cody Broncs host the Jackson Broncs for the state title game at Spike Vannoy Stadium on Saturday with kick-off scheduled for 12 noon. Stay tuned to the Big Horn Radio Network all week long for more on Cody Football.
