Generous donors have ensured no Cody students will go hungry for the rest of this unprecedented school year.

Gen Sheets, Director of Food Services at Cody High School, announced Wednesday that the community has come together once again and supported their efforts to keep Cody’s students healthy and well-fed. That generosity has extended thru 2020 to the end of the current school year.

The district’s nutrition department estimated they would be able to provide breakfasts and lunches to any student that needed meals up to winter break – Dec. 23. Now, thanks to donors, they will be able to provide those meals to all students in need for the duration of the 2020-2021 school year, ending on May 28.

Thanks to the community donors, the district continues its ten-month streak of debt-free balances on the student meal accounts.

While these donations are immensely appreciated by the district and its students, Sheets indicated there was another way Cody residents can make a big impact.

“If you have not already filled out a meal application this school year, please take a few minutes to complete the online form. It is hard to explain the complexities of school funding. One thing is for certain, the number of students we have who qualify for free and reduced meals has a direct impact on the Title I grant-funded programming we are able to provide within our district. Not only does this grant funding supply 10 peoples’ salaries, it provides books and software licenses to help students with reading and math. It also supports professional development to help our staff reach students more effectively.”

You don’t need to have children who need meals at school, the applications can be immensely helpful in ensuring those children who struggle can continue to have this resource in the Cody school district.
