Former senator and Cody community leader Al Simpson is reportedly healing well in California after a bad fall led to a partial hip replacement.
Wyoming News reports that Cody resident Alan Simpson suffered a fall during a California vacation. That fall led to surgery and partial hip replacement, from which he is “recovering well.”
Last Friday, Simpson was out for a walk when a group of people behind him tried to get his attention. As Simpson turned around, he lost his balance and fell hard, breaking his left pelvic bone.
Colin Simpson, Senator Simpson’s son, confirmed the senator underwent surgery. He also said Senator Simpson will be undergoing physical therapy in California for the next two to three weeks.
Deb Oakley Simpson took to Facebook with an additional update on the senator’s condition:
“He’s doing well!! They did surgery to repair it last Friday. He’s up and about and doing his PT. Colin and (Ann Simpson, his wife) are with him. He’ll stay in CA for a couple of weeks to do some rehab. But he’ll be back full force before you know it.”
Senator Simpson has every intention of return to Wyoming and his home in Cody, once he is physically able.
Al Simpson served as a US Senator for Wyoming from 1979 until retiring in 1997. He is a Cody High School graduate – Class of 1949 – and remains very active in the Cody community.
This is the second health scare the senator in the last year after the 89-year-old senator suffered a stroke last October.
In October 2020, Simpson suffered a minor stroke that resulted in the removal of an arterial blockage at Swedish Medical Center in Denver, CO.Simpson fully recovered from that stroke and surgery, losing no stride in his step.
He has and will continue to stand tall in the Cody community.
