Worland city council member, Delayne Renner Newton resigned from her Ward 1 post in October and the search for her replacement is underway. Mayor Jim Gill is currently accepting submissions until December 18th and will fill the vacancy by January 5th, 2021.
The Mayor’s Office recommended that interested parties provide a letter of interest addressed to the Mayor indicating your interest in serving for the Ward 1 position and contact information including your home address, phone number and e-mail.
The selection process will include 5 minutes to address the Council, market their qualifications, and interest to serve the city. Each candidate will have an opportunity to provide each Council Member a copy of their presentation and if a candidate has hand-outs, they will need a minimum of 10 copies.
The Mayor said, “After hearing each candidate, the Council will go into Executive Session to discuss the Candidates. After hearing from the Council, the Council will go into regular session and the Mayor will announce his decision on who he would like to recommend. The council will then vote in favor or not with the recommendation. At any rate, a successful candidate will be chosen.”
Mayor Gill continued to highlight other important qualifications, “As to expectations of the Council and Mayor in a candidate, things like what you have contributed to the community? Work with service clubs, chamber, youth groups, church etc. can be helpful. Any ideas you might have toward improving city government would be of interest as well. In a nut shell, your profession, accomplishments and other interests in life that can be summed up in five minutes or less.”
