The FAA, or Federal Aviation Administration, based out of Washington, DC, is saying that airspace that was closed Saturday night has now been lifted. The airspace over Havre, Montana was briefly closed for a time for Defense Department activities. The FAA would not elaborate on the specific nature of those “activities.”
The FAA had issued a temporary notice to close an area of 50 by 50 nautical miles near the Canadian border from all flights in the area, classifying the the region as “national defense airspace.”
Representative Matt Rosendale, R-MT, issued a statement on Twitter that read, “I am in direct contact with NORCOM and monitoring the latest issue over Havre and the northern border. Airspace is closed due to an object that could interfere with commercial air traffic — the DOD will resume efforts to observe and ground the object in the morning.”
The FAA said in a statement that the airspace had been reopened just before 8:30PM ET on Saturday night.
