Exercise Vital to Mental Health

Exercise is not only good for your physical health, but your mental health as well.

People who suffer from anxiety, depression and other mental health issues need to get up and move, according to a panel of experts Monday morning on KODI’s “Speak Your Piece with Darian Dudrick.”

“The more that they isolate, the more that they lay in bed, or they’re on social media or watching the doom and gloom of some of the news reports, it really gets people down,” said Lorraine Steppe, mental health therapist at The Pines Counseling in Cody.

“So to get away from that and do something upbeat is important – even just, ‘Hey, let’s go for a walk.’ Move your body.”

The panel included Steppe; Dr. Shaun Balch, Yellowstone Behavioral Health Center clinical director; and Peter Mason, physical therapist, and Cody Dibble, personal trainer, both from Advantage Rehab Physical Therapy.
