Cubs Sweep Lander to Open Conference Play, Fall to Sheridan

The Cody Cubs Baseball team was back in action over the weekend taking part in several games on the road.

On Thursday, the Cubs were in Lander for their first conference games of the season.

The Cubs would sweep the day, winning game one by a final of 21-4 and took game two, 15-7.

Trey Schroeder took to the hill in game one and got the win. He tossed 4 inning of 5 hit ball, gave up 4 runs, 2 earned and struck out 6 while walking 2.

At the plate, Trey Thomasson would lead the way with 3 total hits.

Schroeder, Jace Jarrett, William Duke and Myles Bailey each had a pair.

Bailey hit his first home run of the season, a bomb over the left field fence.

Cody was up by as many as 21 runs in this one.

In game 2, the Cubs would keep the bats going. They put up a 6-run 1st inning but Lander answered right back, scoring 7 of their own in the bottom of the frame to take a 7-6 lead after 1.

Cody would buckle down and score the games remaining 9 runs.

After a rocky 1st inning Trey Thomasson settled down on the hill and ended up pitching 5 innings for the win.. He gave up 6 hits, 7 runs, walked 5 and struck out 6.

Thomasson, Eli Johnston and Myles Bailey would lead the way at the plate with 2 hits each.

Wyatt Carlson would launch his 3rd Home Run of the season, a blast over left field.

The Cubs would then return to action on Saturday, as they traveled over to Sheridan for a twin bill with the AA ranked Troopers.

The Cubs would fall in game 1, by a final of 8-6.

The Cubs had their 5-game win streak snapped in this one.

After the Cubs tied it up with a 4-run 5th, Sheridan would plate 2 in the bottom of the 6th for the win.

The Troopers would walk it off in game 2, winning 10-9.

Cody led the majority of the game. The Cubs were up 3-1 after 2 and 8-4 after the top half of the 6th but couldn’t hold on.

Following the weekend’s action, the Cubs are now 9-12 on the season, 2-0 in conference play.

Up Next: The Cubs are back home for the first time in a month, Tuesday, as they’ll play host to Lovell for a conference double header. First pitch at 5pm.

This weekend, the Cubs will be in Three Forks, Mont., for the Gallatin Valley Tourney, playing 5 games from Friday through Sunday.
