There’s bad news and . . . neutral news about COVID-19 this week.
A statement from Aaron R. Billin, MD, and Park County Health Officer was released on Friday:
“There have been concerns about recent widespread exposure to COVID-19 at Cody Regional Hospital. Because COVID-19 can have an incubation period of up to 14 days, individuals that end up testing positive may have exposed many people, especially while they were asymptomatic. So multiple people where a COVID-19 positive individual works are possibly exposed. In every case aggressive contact identification, isolation, and appropriate testing is conducted. This confirmed COVID-19 case is currently self-quarantined at home. Individual cases in 3 other Wyoming counties have turned into a cluster, so a first case is very concerning for any community. More cases are not unexpected.”
There will be more confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Cody and Park County. But there’s will be largely because more testing is being undertaken, which leads to more positive cases. While this doesn’t diminish the severity of the virus and its effects, its not a reason to slide further into panic and despair. The virus has been present in Wyoming and in Cody before last week. But this is time when symptoms will begin to manifest.
The preventive measures taken by the State and County will ensure the virus doesn’t devastate us, so long as they are followed by us as a community. Keep social distancing and staying quarantined if you are sick.
