A new awards show has been announced for fans of Country Music as Peacock and NBC will air the first-ever “People’s Choice Country Awards” this September. The broadcast will take place at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tennessee.
Country Music fans will have an important role in the show because they will be the ones voting for their favorite nominee in each of the categories.
Countryinsider.com stated, “The new People’s Choice property comes about as a result of NBCUniversal’s equity investment in Opry Entertainment Group alongside Atairos.”
The People’s Choice Awards continues to rack up high ratings, with each year’s show surpassing the one previous. NBC said in a statement that the show “bucked industry trends with year-over-year broadcast ratings growth” and “delivered 173 million total engagements across linear, digital, and social platforms.”
Cassandra Tryon, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming Senior VP, said in a release, “We’re excited to partner with the Grand Ole Opry to bring the year’s biggest celebration in country music to Nashville. Country fans are passionate about their music and there’s no better place to host this event than from country music’s biggest stage.”
Country music was already celebrated heavily as the genre consisted of three “major” award shows. CBS airs the “CMT Music Awards” every April. Amazon Prime Video broadcasts the “ACM Awards” in mid-spring. The “CMA Awards” are shown on ABC in November.
The People’s Choice Country Awards will become the newest member to join this elite group.
