The Lone Star Fire is still burning – but it’s becoming safely predictable.
Tuesday, the Public Affairs Office in Yellowstone National Park released the final daily update for the Lone Star Fire, and will only be releasing more information if the fire’s status changes significantly. This final update is similar to earlier ones – the fire has burned through approximately 960 acres and 49 personnel are currently responding.
The fire is burning through mature forests of spruce, fir, and lodgepole pine that has not previously been burned. While there is no present danger to the Old Faithful area and infrastructure, they are still be monitored for protection should things change.
A cold front and precipitation in the area helped to quell the flames, but the fire itself is still smoldering and giving off heat. This is expected to continue long after the flames have been extinguished. The activity is currently qualified as minimal “creeping and smoldering.”
Fire mangers expect to have the fire contained by the end of October.
All the trailheads, campsites, and amenities in the affected area remain closed with no official opening date currently known.
