Cody Yellowstone Launches Chief Joseph Byway Audio Tour

Cody Yellowstone has introduced a new TravelStorys audio tour of the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway.

The tour – available for free through the TravelStorys app – follows the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway (Wyoming Route 296) as well as part of Wyoming Route 120 between the town of Cody and the 296 turnoff. The phone’s GPS capabilities prompt the tour to describe various scenes along the highway, such as geology, wildlife habitat, fire ecology, historic sites, and more.

The tour is approximately 45 miles long and includes 11 separate GPS-triggered scripts called geotags.

The tour should be downloaded in advance. Once downloaded, no cell service is required to use the tour.

“Listening to this new TravelStorys tour while you drive the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway is like having a knowledgeable and passionate guide in the car with you,” said Ryan Hauck, executive director of Cody Yellowstone, the marketing arm for the region that includes the towns of Cody, Powell and Meeteetse, parts of the Shoshone National Forest and a large swath of Yellowstone National Park. “There is so much more to this drive than our spectacular Wyoming scenery. Historical scenes such as the flight of the Nez Perce and stories about the plentiful wildlife that roam the region are highlighted in engaging detail.”

The free app is available at www.codyyellowstone.org or the TravelStorys website. Cody Yellowstone also has “Historic Downtown Cody,” “Cody to Yellowstone,” and “Hemingway Highways” tours available.
