A local student artist’s award-winning duck stamp will be on display in Powell beginning today.
An exhibit showcasing the winning entries of the 2019 Wyoming Junior Duck Stamp Program opens today in Northwest College. There were 211 entries this year, all from student from kindergarten thru 12th grade. The 2019 “Best of Show” was awarded to Cody’s Brianna Simmons, for her painting “Pintails in Flight,” a watercolor of two northern pintail drakes.
The competition is put on by the Federal Junior Duck Stamp Program, a national conservation program that combines artistic exploration with waterfowl conservation and education. The winning artwork will make its way onto stamps, and those proceeds go to support conversation and award scholarships open to anyone participating in the program. Cydney Brown of Cokeville submitted this year’s winning message: “A future without conservation is like a canvas without paint.”
The 2019 Wyoming Junior Duck Stamp Program exhibit is in The SinClair Gallery, located in the Orendorff Building on the Northwest College campus. It is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. until December 13th. Admission is free to everyone.
