Cody South Road Project Begins Today

Cody’s next major WYDOT project begins today.

Mountain Construction Company of Lovell is the contractor managing the appropriately named Cody South Project – tearing up and refurbishing a 6.8-mile stretch of WY 120 between the WY120/US14/16/20 intersection adjacent to Yellowstone Regional Airport and Milepost 74 near the snowplow turnaround south of the Park County Landfill.

This will be a full reconstruction of the road, including a 5-inch asphalt pavement mill and overlay to just south of the Park County Landfill. Pavement leveling and a pavement overlay will complete the project. Other work on the project includes installation of paved mailbox turnouts, pipe work, signage, and electrical upgrades.

Mountain Construction Company will begin today, May 26th. Traffic delays can be expected. The Cody South work is also subjected to a mandatory break – no work will be done between June 30th and July 5th, and everything except land reclamation must be finished before August 31st.

Assuming ideal conditions and barring unforeseen circumstances, the entire project should be completed by Halloween 2020, and ideally by October 25th – with material will be hauled into Cody for the beginning of Phase 2 of the Sheridan Avenue Project. Phase 1 is still set to be completed by June 15th.
