With Spring sports in motion and in full gear officially now, that means Cody soccer got underway last night with a home opener against Powell.
The Cody girls soccer team, who won three straight state championships and were unable to make it four due to the pandemic, started their season much like that elite run beating the Powell girls 8-0.
A year lost means players lost and that didn’t seem to have a huge effect on them last night. The team fields only seven upperclassmen but still brings back all-State players like Torrie Schutzman, Emma Nieters and Autumn Wilson, along with defender Megan Boysen.
The team has extreme speed across the whole field and looks to keep the dominant run going as they will go to play Riverton this Friday.
The boys game didn’t go as well as they dropped the game to Powell losing 9-1. With a new coach in Randy Rockey, and a lot of time off for all of the players, this shouldn’t come as a shock.
This team has high potential with seniors such as Tucker Lynn and football standouts Keaton Stone and Reese Ward. To go along with that dynamic, lengthy trio of seniors, they have a fourth in Wyatt Becker as well who will be able to provide stamina and speed given that he is a more than formidable cross country athlete.
It looks like this squad may just take time to work out some expected kinks after being off of the soccer field for two years.
The Broncs will travel with the Fillies to take on Riverton on Friday.
Win or lose, it is a great achievement to have these students back on the field doing what they love as a team.
