According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, sunlight was the contributing factor in the accident that killed Cody resident Daniel Tudor on Friday, July 16.
According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at Sunburst Drive on Wyoming Highway 291 -the South Fork Highway near Cody. On the evening of Friday, July 16, Tudor was riding his 2014 Harley Davidson along WY 291 without a helmet.
Around 8 p.m. that evening, Tudor was stopped in traffic attempting to make a left turn. A 2010 Mazda 3 was traveling westbound towards him.
The Mazda’s driver was driving into the sun and failed to see the stopped motorcycle. As a result, the Mazda collided with the back of the Harley.
After the impact, Tudor was thrown from the bike. The Wyoming Highway Patrol received a call about the accident at 8:01 p.m.
Tragically, Tudor succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash. He was 61 years old.
The driver of the Mazda was 18-year-old Megan McCann. She was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was uninjured.
This is the 52nd fatality on Wyoming’s roadways in 2021. It’s also the first highway fatality in Park County this year.
Historically, there were 59 Wyoming highway fatalities in 2020, 92 in 2019, and 56 in 2018 to date.
