Tuesday night was Charlie Wright nigh and Senior night for the Cody Cubs as they hosted the Powell Pioneers and would end up putting on a clinic.
The Cubs would sweep the evening outscoring the Pioneers 27-1 over the course of the night, winning game 1, 10-1 and game 2, 17-0.
Jackson Schroeder would take to the hill in game 1 and threw six innings of five hit ball, allowed one run and struck out six.
Powell would score the first run of the night on a double from Keaton Rowten that brought home Cade Queen, in the top of the second, but the Pioneers would fail to score again the rest of the night.
Cody would come to the plate in the bottom half of inning two and got on the board with a Channce Moss RBI and would put up three runs. They’d score two in the third, added four in the fifth and one more in the sixth.
Schroeder, Tristan Blatt and Devyn Engdahl would combine to go 7-12 at the plate with three RBI’s and six runs scored.
In game no. 2, the Cubs offense came alive as Tristan Blatt connected on a two-run home run while Jackson Schroeder launched his second grand slam of the season and Cody would go on to sweep the Northwest A conference.
Ethan Johnston took to the hill in game 2 and threw five flawless innings. Johnston would allow just two hits while striking out five in a dominant performance.
On senior night Devyn Engdahl came to play. Engdahl finished the night 5-6 at the plate, scored four runs and came away with two RBI’s. Engdahl would reach base safely in all but one at bat on the night.
With the wins, Cody’s now 32-15 on the season, 8-0 in league play.
Up next: The Cubs will host the Cody Tournament this weekend. On Friday they play Jackson at 7:30pm. On Saturday they host Colorado Springs at 6pm. On Sunday, the Cubs have a double header beginning at 1pm against Jackson and will play Gallatin Valley, Mont, in Sunday afternoons second game.
