Cody PD Cracking Down on Unregistered Street-parked Vehicles

The Cody Police Department has a reminder for anyone with a vehicle parked on the street.

Officers have noted an increase of vehicles – cars, trucks, and trailers – that are parked in the street with either expired registration or no registration whatsoever. This is against the Cody Municipal Code, which specifically cites street parking for vehicles with expired registration. The statute reads as follows:

City Code 6-3-1: PARKING PROHIBITED IN CERTAIN PLACES states:

  1. No person shall stop, stand or park a vehicle, except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the law or the directions of a police officer or traffic control device, in any of the following places:
  2. On any public street or alley within the city, or within any municipal parking area, if the vehicle is not currently licensed to be operated or towed on public streets or is inoperable, or cannot be safely operated or towed.

The Department plans to more rigorously enforce this statue in the future, so the way to avoid any citations is fairly straightforward: either get current registration or move the vehicles in question onto private property so they are not impeding the road.

They did add one addendum to their post: If a vehicle is manufactured without a place to mount a front license plate, posting registration upon is it is not required.
