A number of Cody women gathered to dedicate a memorial to one of their own.
Yesterday, in front of Rawhide Coffee on Sheridan Avenue, members of the Cody Chapter of P.E.O. International gathered to dedicate a bench in honor of deceased member Karna Morton. Morton, who passed away in November of last year, was an active member of P.E.O. and citizen of Cody. The group used funds raised by a number of local organizations and chapter members to purchase and dedicate a bench in front of her favorite coffee house. Her husband, Dr. Douglas Morton, was on hand to cut the ribbon.
Betsy Sell, P.E.O. member and leader of the committee who arranged for the memorial, explains the significance – known and unknown to them – of Rawhide Coffee to Karna’s life. More than just her favorite place to meet with friends, Dr. Morton explained that Karna previously worked in building when it was a dress shop, making various products for children.
P.E.O. International is dedicated to the educational advancement of women and girls worldwide. Cody’s chapter awards an annual scholarship to a Cody high school senior, which was fittingly named the Karna Memorial Woman of Grace Scholarship.
