A local student has received a national award for his work as a journalist.
Cody High School’s Wyatt Burichka has been selected as the 2020 Wyoming Journalist of the Year by the Journalism Education Association, which supports free and responsible scholastic journalism by providing resources and educational opportunities, promoting professionalism, and encouraging and rewarding student excellence and teacher achievement.
Burichka received the award largely for his work with CHS Wired, the high school’s semi-monthly, 27-minute, digital journalism production under the guidance of his adviser Erika Quick. He had to create a digital portfolio and a website of his work which was evaluated by the Association, thus securing the honor. Burichka plans to go onto college studying New Media and continuing to build his skills. His dream job is to host a sports talk show on ESPN.
He wants to thank everyone who’s helped him become the journalist he is today, and we congratulate him on achieving this high honor for his journalism work.
