AFTER WEEKS OF PRACTICING AND TOURNAMENT PLAY THE REGIONAL GOLF TOURNAMENT IS FINALLY HERE. FOR THE CODY BRONCS IT’S BEEN A STEADY IMPROVEMENT WEEK TO WEEK AND NOW IT’S TIME FOR THEM TO PUT IT ALL TOGETHER. THIS IS A GROUP THAT IS LED BY A CORE OF JUNIORS AND HEAD COACH JACOB KRAFT TALKS ABOUT THE CHALLENGES THE TEAM COULD FACE THIS WEEK.
“THE UNKNOWN. NONE OF OUR KIDS HAVE PLAYED PURPLE SAGE IN EVANSTON, SO THAT WILL BE SOMETHING THEY’LL HAVE TO FACE. THAT FIRST ROUND THEY’RE GOING TO HAVE TO NAVIGATE WITHOUT A WHOLE LOT OF INFORMATION. THE COURSE ITSELF CAN BE A LITTLE BE LONGER MAYBE THAN OTHER COURSES. THERE’S LESS TREE TROUBLE CAUSE IT’S KIND OF WIDE OPEN, IN SOME RESPECTS. AGAIN, IF OUR SHORT GAME IS ON POINT THEN OUR KIDS ARE GOING TO SUCCEED.”
COACH KRAFT GOES ON TO SAY THAT ONE OF THOSE JUNIORS, HUTSON OELSCHLAGER COULD BE AN X-FACTOR THIS WEEK. HUNTER TALKS ABOUT HIS PREPARATION HEADING INTO EVANSTON.
“I’M REALLY WORKING ON TRYING TO GET MY TEMPO DOWN AND LATELY I HAVEN’T BEEN HITTING GOOD PARTLY BECAUSE I’VE BEEN HAVING WAY TO MANY THOUGHTS ABOUT MY SWING IN MY MIND BEFORE I HIT THE BALL. SO I’VE REALLY BEEN TRYING TO CLEAR MY MIND BEFORE I MAKE CONTACT AND ITS BEEN HELPING ME A LOT LATELY.”
A POINT OF EMPHASIS THIS WEEK IN PRACTICE IS CONSISTENCY. IF THEY ARE GOING TO SHOOT THE LOW ROUND THEY ARE CAPABLE OF THEY MUST BE CONSISTENT IN DOING SO. LOGAN SCHUTZMAN ECHOES THAT STATEMENT AND ADDS WHAT HE MUST DO TO HELP THE TEAM ACHIEVE THEIR GOALS.
“I’VE REALLY GOT TO WORK ON MY SCORING SHOTS, LIKE MY PUTTING AND CHIPPING. I JUST NEED TO GET CLOSE TO THE GREEN AND GET ON BECAUSE LATELY I’VE BEEN SETTING MYSELF UP IN SOME BAD POSITIONS AND I HAVEN’T BEEN ABLE TO WORK ON MY SHORT GAME. ESPECIALLY, SINCE OUR GREENS WERE JUST WORKED ON. SO IF I REALLY GET MY SHORT GAME DOWN I’LL BE ABLE TO SCORE GOOD.”
COACH KRAFT SAYS HE BELIEVES THAT BOTH CARTER AND LOGAN SCHUTZMAN HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A TOP 10 ALL-CONFERENCE GOLFER. CARTER HAS BEEN THE LOW MAN FOR MANY OF THE TOURNAMENTS AND TALKS ABOUT HOW HE PLANS TO CONTINUE THAT TREND.
“PROBABLY CHIPPING AND PUTTING. I’VE GOT TO CHIP IT CLOSE AND PUTT IT IN. AND THEN ALSO STAYING OUT OF THE OBVIOUS HAZARDS AND PENALTY ZONES AND SAVE A FEW STROKES BY NOT GOING OUT OF BOUNDS OR IN THE WATER, AND THINGS LIKE THAT.”
THE CODY BRONCS GOLF TEAM IS IN EVANSTON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY FOR THE REGIONAL GOLF TOURNAMENT AT PURPLE SAGE. STAY TUNED TO THE BIG HORN RADIO NETWORK FOR UPDATES AND RESULTS.
